Steering Committee

Overview

Each VaSCL member division may appoint one or more representatives to the Steering Committee. This group—composed of central office and building leaders such as assistant superintendents, instructional specialists, principals, or directors—meets virtually four times per year. Steering Committee members all receive steering committee email updates but typically only one-two representatives attend virtual meetings from each division.

The Steering Committee collaborates with the Executive Director to:
  • Identify members’ professional learning needs and recommend aligned development opportunities
  • Recommend Balanced Assessment Workgroup members and assess progress
  • Provide input on the development of the VaSCL Test & Task Bank based on local needs
  • Share innovative practices with the VaSCL network used in response to local, state, and national education initiatives
  • Communicate VaSCL updates and opportunities with staff in member divisions
