PLC+ provides a comprehensive method of engaging educators in a cycle of learning through inquiry. This practical and evidence-based framework supports:
- Planning and implementation in support of student learning
- Professional development intentionally designed for teacher agency over their learning
- Cycles of assessment, reflection, and decisions that lead to greater impact
- Monitoring collaborative impact on teacher and student learning
Building upon prevailing PLC methodology, the PLC+ framework is aimed at refreshing current collaborative structures and helping to support teachers’ decision-making in the context of individual and collective efficacy, expectations, equity, and the activation of their own learning.
Just as teachers work to identify the learning needs of their students, PLCs must effectively identify the learning needs of their teachers. This is achieved through intentional discussion, collaborative reflection, and examination of impact.
The workshop series will focus on understanding the five guiding questions of the PLC+ framework and the four cross-cutting values that drive the cycle of learning through inquiry. This will include engaging and rigorous tasks that are designed to increase participants' understanding of the most effective elements of successful PLCs. Evidence will be collected by participants to help build their PLC+ in their own districts and schools. The learning intentions include:
- Understanding the PLC+ Framework Essential Questions and cross-cutting values
- Understanding the potential impact of PLC+ Implementation
- Understanding the steps required to implement PLC+ framework
- Understanding how PLC+ builds individual and collective efficacy and teacher credibility
Criteria for Success for these are:
- Articulate the PLC+ essential questions and cross-cutting values
- Identify the current reality of PLC structure
- Identify common challenges facing your PLC
- Identify tools and resources to implement the PLC+ framework
- Decide actions to support the implementation of the PLC+ framework
- Design PLC+ structures that positively impact student and teacher learning
- Identify facilitation strategies to support a high functioning PLC+ structure
Lead teachers, instructional coaches, instructional specialists, building-level administrators, and district-level instructional administrators are welcome. (All participants will receive a copy of John Almarode’s PLC+ book)
Recertification Certificates (5 points) will be given at the end of the PD workshop series after completion of an electronic exit survey.

Workshop Series Cost
The workshop series (full day onsite +3 virtual sessions) fee is $199 for each participant who is a member of a school division that is a member of VaSCL. You can check here for member divisions.
The registration fee for participants from Non-Member school divisions is $225.
The registration deadline is February 1, 2022.

VaSCL has a no refund policy for workshop registrations. In the event that a workshop is canceled by VaSCL, refunds will be made in full.
